Youngest Mackenzie injured in inaugural Motostar British championship race
Redline Racing KTM’s Tarran Mackenzie crashed out of the Motostar British championship race at Thruxton this past weekend and suffered a badly injured knee.
The Saturday British Motostar Championship race – a support class for British Superbike - at Thruxton was the first of the season for 16-year old ‘Taz’ on the KTM RC125 after the Brands Hatch meeting was cancelled due to dangerous track conditions the previous week.
Having qualified in 10th place, Tarran was battling for 5th place on the high speed Hampshire circuit when he crashed on lap 5 at the chicane and suffered a messy knee injury.
The youngest son of former MotoGP rider and three-time British Superbike champion, Niall, was operated on at Salisbury District on Sunday (April 15) night, where he received skin grafts on the right knee. Fortunately, no damage was done to the kneecap, ligaments or tendons.
A four-week recovery is expected, ruling him out of the next round at Oulton Park on May 7.
Niall Mackenzie said: “Taz had his knee operation last night and should get home later today (Monday). He’s smiling as always and we’re still waiting to know a true recovery time and when Taz will get back on the bike.”
